Volunteer Opportunities with AMA-Madison

We Need Your Help!

Help us create and deliver the best educational experience and resources to benefit the Madison marketing community. Use your skills, share your knowledge and make new connections. The AMA-Madison has a range of volunteer opportunities—in communications, operations, events and more—to suite your schedule.

Short on Time? Try a Task Leader Position

For those individuals who want to get involved but are limited on time, or for those who want to slowly build their level of involvement with the chapter, these are one-time and short-term positions:

Meet and Greet Specialists
We need individuals to help greet and check-in our guests at each monthly luncheon, social events, etc. Tasks include staffing the registration table and making both members and guests feel welcome.
You have the flexibility to sign up for as many meetings as you can accommodate.

Requirements:

  • Must be available to arrive 1/2 hour prior to the start of event registration
  • Must be able to help pack up all materials after the event

Time Commitment:

  • 2.5-3 hours (average) for each event

Looking for more involvement? Committee Members

The “bread and butter” of the chapter, these individuals work with each of the Board Chairs on an ongoing basis throughout the course of the year to bring their annual chapter plans to fruition, continuing to improve the value of our chapter to our members. 

Requirements:

  • Must be able to commit for the duration of the programming year (which runs July-June)
  • Must be available to meet as a committee once per month, as directed by the committee Chair
  • Must be able and willing to follow-through on to-do items in a timely manner
  • Must have a desire to work hard and have fun in the process

Time Commitment:

  • Approx. 6-10 hours per month

Programming Committee

  • Work with the Programming Chair to secure speakers for our chapter luncheons and other events
  • Work with those speakers to secure the information needed for promotional communications

Specific Needs: Operations Coordinator

  • Perfect for someone who’s stellar at event management
  • Coordinate and manage the logistics behind each chapter event, including venue selection (when necessary), menu selection, at-event registration, printing of name tags, etc.

Membership Committee

  • Work with the Membership Chair to execute tactics that will recruit new members and increase our member retention rate

Communications Committee

  • Work with the Communications Chair to promote chapter events and maintain chapter engagement on an ongoing basis
  • Update the chapter website, social media tools, etc.

Specific Needs: Metrics Champion

  • Perfect for a self-proclaimed “data geek”
  • Help track and manage our chapter metrics, including: our annual dashboard of annual goals, website, email and social media analytics and monthly event surveys

AMA Leadership Roles: Board Members

This is a fantastic opportunity to take a leadership role and help shape the future of the chapter. Board members must be passionate about growing the chapter, improving our offerings and helping to develop the processes that help us run better. As a board member, you will also serve as a mentor to committee members.

Requirements:

  • Must be able to commit for the duration of the programming year (which runs July-June)
  • Must be available to meet in-person one morning per month (2.5 hours), as well as via conference call one lunch hour per month (1 hour)
  • Must feel comfortable in a leadership role, directing other volunteers and committee members
  • Must be able to think strategically about the chapter as a whole, while also being able to effectively execute the details
  • Must be able and willing to follow-through on to-do items in a timely manner
  • Must have a desire to work hard and have fun in the process

Time Commitment:

  • 10-15 hours per month

Membership Chair

  • Perfect for those who love reaching out and work with people!
  • Coordinate the recruitment, management and retention of chapter members utilizing the membership committee
  • Coordinating member related communications with the Communications Chair (member benefits, member drives, etc.)

Secretary

  • Perfect for someone who thrives on organization
  • Responsible for the organization and distribution of all internal chapter documentation and communication, including meeting agendas, minutes, board reports, financial reports and other chapter documents; this includes maintaining and organizing our Google Docs portal

Sponsorship Chair

  • Perfect for that natural-born salesperson, or someone looking to hone their sales skills
  • Identify chapter sponsorship opportunities, develop sponsorship programs and pair them with local businesses who need to reach a captive audience of marketers
